Personally, I think it's the same thing, although many wouldn't agree with you. My experience - dozens of "out of body" in "mind", "not using sleep" that is. And my room is always different, sometimes it's not even my ceiling and not my room

I personally believe that the OS and the Astral plane are TWO totally different things. If in the first sleep is built from memory(what you saw, heard, felt) that the second is already much more than just a bunch of memories.
