Listen through the built-in Windows "the CD player", when you reset the settings in the window of the sound card...

By the way foobar2000 is a good player, of course all settings to "default". You can download it on foobar2000.com

To mm, the Conductor has very little to do with, but I would recommend to start with him.
On mm you have to start with relaxation (in Pathfinder, even a special Sabarmati to do).
