The cylinder is placed on the disc record player and rotated at a speed of 45 or 78 rotations per minute. </p> <p align="left">In the center of the cylinder hung a glowing ball, and the rotation speed allows the light to penetrate from the cracks in the cylinder with a constant frequency of 8 to 13 flashes per second.
